THE FRINGE PROJECT
Director/Resident Writer: Michelle Marie
Assistant Director/Production Manager: Jim Gradillas
Ages 12 to 17
(Fringe meaning: not apart of the mainstream, unconventional, peripheral or extreme)
Think of a pattern on a tapestry or a dress, at the end of all those carefully layered threads are tassels tied with free flowing edges. They do not have a specific place, they are apart of something beautiful yet not recognized, extra fabric. They are an anchor to a pattern so that it does not unravel. That is the ‘Fringe’ seemingly to be carefree and freely move when the wind blows, becoming, mysterious, decorative yet slyly serves a purpose… to hold everything together. We are all neither the art or the bits and pieces of it. What is the material that lays outside of yourself; what is your edge…. (think about it) That is Fringe. Be decorative or be necessary… either way we are both. So this is my challenge to you; Are you the fringe or the pattern? Do you need to be made or can you be what is left and make yourself with what you got?
I am extremely excited to announce The‘Fringe Project’. The Fringe Project is going to be headed by myself, Michelle Marie. Much like the earlier projects, we welcome young writers and actors for a chance to produce/direct/act in their own writings and productions.
1. You must audition to be in the program. (Please pick a time below. Auditions are August 31st. Production FEE will be only $50!)
2. All participants MUST agree to engage in every aspect of a production; writing, directing, acting, tech and/or creative consultants.
3. There will be 9 rehearsals to showcase 6-8 selected short play/pieces per session. (Start date is Wednesday, September 30th from 7:30pm to 9:15pm)
It will be an all-inclusive session, everyone will be involved in the production of the showcase. This will allow you to express yourself creatively and enabling a sense of teamwork to conclude.
Writings DO NOT need to be a drama. Comedy, satire, metaphorical and fantasy stories are much welcome. All genres are inclusive.
This is meant to be a teaching tool to give a whole experience of the workings of a live production.
I wish you all the best and so much looking forward to your submissions. It will be a lot of work and so much fun!!!
